When your identity and truest erotic nature are experienced by you as one and the same, you’re irresistibly magnetic to others because you’re being witnessed savoring your unique desires, uninterrupted and enraptured. Instead of exiting your present desirous moment by mercilessly grasping for what you most want and then taking pseudo-erotic side quests to make yourself feel better, you’re reveling in the honest foreplay that is most of your life—desire. You are always in relationship to desire. The quality of this relationship is the quality of your life and personal magnetism. Your climaxes don’t add up to a life. It’s always been about the tantric spaces between.
Nicole Daedone, in The Eros Sutras: Principles, describes desire as “a sensory organ that travels with us through the world, feeling for the deeper things we want…a feeling of belonging that will bring us into the fullness of who we are.” Your life changes when you realize what you truly want is to enjoy your desire for longer and longer stitches of time and to become the person “who [you] need to be to have the care, guardianship, respect and fierceness required to carry this noble force.” To know what it is you most want and to be in integrous relationship to it is the salve and the homecoming for your existential angst, aimlessness, purposelessness and a feeling of numbness you hope erotic love and erotic sex will rescue you from.
I rarely talk about sex as the erotic has been banished to the bedroom and I’d like to resurrect it into identity but, it’s transformative to view your life through the qualities of erotic sex you most enjoy. This is one of the clearest ways to eroticize your identity because second to your creative life, nowhere do we recognize our erotic selves as quickly as we do in the sexual realm. Let’s get into it.
